TIME-LAPSE - MAKING OF
While some short-term projects like event set-ups take several days, most of our construction time-lapse projects last several years. The production of all time-lapse projects follows a 3-phase process: Planning, Capturing and Editing.

1 - PLANNING
During the planning stage, we evaluate the site to identify suitable positions for the time-lapse camera. We also consider factors such as the availability of AC power, potential obstructions, and the need for permits if the camera is installed at a third-party location. Based on this assessment, we recommend the best possible configuration for the time-lapse setup.
The cost typically includes:
-
A one-time system installation fee
-
Monthly fees for time-lapse camera rental and maintenance
-
Charges for compiling and editing the time-lapse video

2 - CAPTURE
Depending on the size and layout of the project, single or multiple time-lapse cameras may be recommended for optimal coverage. With the Titan X, we can monitor the cameras remotely. All the images are automatically uploaded to our secured server. Most of our long-term time-lapse projects are captured with one frame every 10 minutes, so a typical 3-year project will generate over 150,000 images.

3 - EDITING
Once the time-lapse capture is complete, our post-production team will process the thousands of images. This process may include video editing, adding music, voiceover narration, motion graphics, titling, and 2D or 3D animation. When the project is finished, we render the video to your desired resolution and format. Finally, we archive all the data securely in our LTO-5 tape archival system.

POWER
Short-term time-lapses are usually short enough to run on the power of an external battery. In contrast, long-term time-lapses require either regular battery changes or the installation of solar panels or an AC supply. Our TITAN X runs on power-dense lithium-ion batteries that can last for more than a month on its own, providing an extra layer of reliability.

SETTING
Short-term time-lapses that last a day or less can be done using manual settings. However, for long-term time-lapse, this is not recommended due to varying luminance throughout the day. We use an aperture-priority setting that allows us to maintain the depth-of-field of the frame, letting the camera compensate for exposure using shutter speed.

INTERVAL
For manned, short-term time-lapses, depending on the situation, we recommend using the tightest possible interval that the camera can handle while not compromising on your shutter speed. This can result in an interval as short as 2 seconds in bright daylight to 30 seconds in night settings. On long-term time-lapses where the subject changes very slowly over months and years, we use intervals ranging from 5 to 10 minutes, an economic as well as creative decision.

STORAGE
Most short-term time-lapses can simply be contained in a single SD or CF card, whereas the extended duration of long-term time-lapses entails either regular card-swapping or connecting the camera to a mini-PC with an external hard drive. Data accumulated from our long-term time-lapses easily go up to hundreds of gigabytes, so we prepare individual hard drives as extra back-up for each project, in addition to a dedicated server.

3 Time-lapse Cameras Systems
We understand that our clients will have different requirements and budgets. Thus, we provide 3 different time-lapse cameras to choose from. From Titan Timelapse camera to the advanced Evercam system, which is both a CCTV and a time-lapse camera system. How does the image compare? WATCH - Time-lapse Camera Shootout

TBOX TITAN X – DSLR Time-lapse Camera
Skyshot developed the TBOX time-lapse camera system, a versatile solution suitable for indoor and outdoor installations. Multiple systems can be linked to a central server, enabling monitoring from a single interface. The TITAN X time-lapse system employs Canon DSLR technology to capture high-quality photos of 18 megapixels or higher, resulting in UltraHD 4K videos.

Instant Access to Images
The TITAN X is the perfect solution for capturing high-resolution photos at regular intervals. With its instant upload feature via WiFi or cellular data, you can be sure that your data is always safe and secure. Our online photo viewer app makes it easy to view and retrieve your time-lapse from anywhere, at any time.

Future Proof with 4K ULTRA HD
Since most of our long-term time-lapse projects span 3 to 5 years, future-proof planning is crucial. As TV broadcast technology advances toward 4K UltraHD, we utilize the latest DSLR cameras to shoot in 6K resolution. The images are then compiled and exported in 4K video quality.

Images for Progress Report
Our long-term time-lapse cameras capture high-resolution photographs every 10 minutes, 24/7. Clients use these images to monitor daily construction progress, as well as for progress reports and presentations.

Efficient Solar Panels & Batteries
We provide the latest 100W mono-crystalline solar panels that are lightweight. This allows for easier installation on-site. In case of prolonged bad weather, the battery unit can last up to 5 days without charging.

Secured Storage
Given that most long-term time-lapse projects span several years, safeguarding your valuable images is crucial. The captured images are stored on our secure server and subsequently archived on LTO-8 tapes for added protection.

Fault Alert System
The Titan X server automatically sends an alert message to our phones, if it does not receive an image from your time-lapse camera. This ensures that your camera is functioning properly.

Secured Storage in Our Server & Cloud
With most long-term time-lapses lasting several years; protecting your precious images is paramount. The images from Titan X are sent via 4G cellular data to our secured server. The server sends copies of the original photos to a Data Cloud like Google Cloud for your access. The low-res photos are available for your viewing and download via tboxsystems.com
